Land Acknowledgement
The protection and promotion of land rights and Indigenous Peoples’ rights is central to Inclusive Development International’s mission. We want to acknowledge that the organization’s headquarters are located on the ancestral lands of the Anikituwagi, commonly known as the Cherokee, and that these lands were unjustly and violently taken from them.
The land on which Asheville, North Carolina sits is known to the Anikituwagi as Togiyasdi, Where They Race, and was part of the Cherokee Nation of Tsalagi Ayeli. We recommend that our supporters visit As Long As The Grass Shall Grow, an interactive webpage made in collaboration by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, the Museum of the Cherokee Indian and the Buncombe County Register of Deeds, to learn more about the history of the stolen lands on which Asheville sits and the violence and oppression through which colonizers acquired them. Inclusive Development International acknowledges this genocidal history and the ongoing violence of Indigenous erasure and oppression, and we unequivocally support the protection and realization of Indigenous People’s rights everywhere.
