At least 71 people were killed and thousands lost their homes when faulty construction led to the devastating collapse of Saddle Dam D of the Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy hydropower project in southern Laos on July 23, 2018.
No one has been held accountable and the victims have waited too long for redress.
More than a year after the disaster, victims continue to languish in temporary shelters without adequate access to food, water and other necessities, and with limited financial support. Indigenous villagers lost lands they relied upon for their subsistence and are haunted by fears of another collapse.
Join us in demanding that the companies and institutions behind the project live up to their human rights responsibilities by establishing an accessible compensation fund for survivors so that all affected people can receive reparations for the harm they have suffered.
These companies and institutions have the means to reduce the suffering of thousands of people who lost their homes and livelihoods, and in some cases their loved ones, to a disaster they helped enable.
