Inclusive Development International stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and all people around the world who are rising up to demand racial, economic and social justice and an end to police brutality.
We share the outrage and grief at the hate crimes perpetrated over and over again against Black Americans under the guise of policing.
We condemn the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and the countless other people of color whose lives have been lost to state-sanctioned, racist violence in the United States and we demand accountability for the perpetrators now.
We condemn the violent repression of peaceful protests across the United States and the Trump Administration’s deployment of military forces against our fellow citizens in our nation’s capital. We must forcefully reject Trump’s assault on democracy and defend the Constitutional rights of all Americans to assemble, to protest and to vote.
Inclusive Development International was founded to support those on the front lines of the struggle for justice and inclusion in the face of abusive power. For years, we have stood with frontline human rights and environmental defenders in Southeast Asia and Africa who risk their lives every day fighting injustice and corporate abuse.
This week we turn our attention home. We are committed to listening to, learning from and walking with Black and Brown communities and frontline organizations in the struggle against oppression, systemic racism and abuse of power in the United States.
We support the call for the demilitarization and significant defunding of police departments and prisons and the reinvestment of those resources in long-term strategies to rectify entrenched inequality and uplift Black lives. The United States owes a tremendous debt to Black people for centuries of slavery, Jim Crow, redlining and mass incarceration. This debt must be repaid through investments in universal healthcare, education, housing, and a guaranteed living wage for all communities who have borne the brunt of America’s shameful legacy of racial discrimination and violence.
We must seize this critical moment in history to advocate, organize and build the political power necessary to dismantle systems of oppression and build a more just and equitable world. We recommit ourselves to supporting those on the frontlines of this struggle here in the United States and around the world.
